BeNOTTE METAL

Heavy metal is a type of rock music that developed in the early 1970s, mostly in the UK. The music is characterised by a thick, massive sound, with highly amplified distortion, long guitar solos, strong beats, and is generally expected to be loud. The lyrics and performance styles are often associated with aggression.

And while we’re on the subject of aggression, tonight’s venue, St. Elmo, is very appropriate because it has seen its fair share wars over the centuries. It remains best known for its role in the Great Siege of Malta of 1565.

Anvil are a Canadian heavy metal band from Toronto, Ontario, formed in 1978. The band consists of Steve “Lips” Kudlow, Robb Reiner and Chris Robertson. Up to now they have released sixteen studio albums, and are generally considered as having influenced such metal groups, as Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax and Metallica. A documentary film about the band premiered at thee Sundance Film Festival in 2008. Regarding the music industry, Lips is noted as saying, “we’re getting praise for never selling out and sticking to our guns. It’s a celebration. We got our notoriety on our own terms. We’ve done what we want. Not what someone told us to do.”

Grotium is a Maltese Heavy/Thrash Metal band made up of five musicians with a mutual love for the sound of power. They love the metal sounds of the 70s and 80s but admit to having a helping of modern metal influences as well.

Beheaded is a death metal band from Malta which was formed in 1991. They have earned widespread respect in the extreme music scene with six official releases and several tours and festivals in Europe, US and Asia. The horror breathes and death is coming!
